Depression

Spr 18:14  The spirit of a man will nourish his sickness, but a wounded spirit who can bear?depression

Psa 119:25  DALETH: My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to Your Word.

Psa 38:6  I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

Psa 38:8  I am feeble and painfully broken; I have roared because of the groanings of my heart.

tears-depressionDepression has been called the “common cold” of mental disorders. Scripture points to many issues of sin or conflict that can affect your emotions; most counselors would agree that depression can result from other underlying issues.

Depression can be caused by a numerous amount of underlying issues.

Release from depression caused by guilt came from confession and seeking God’s forgiveness:

“For I said in my haste, ‘I am cut off from before Your eyes’; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You. Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. …I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Psalm 31:22 – 32:2, 32:5 (NKJV)

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 – NKJV).

When we are depressed, we should place our hope in God.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

Fil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, Rejoice!

Choosing to trust truth rather than your feelings may require a lot of faith. And if that is what we mean by asking if faith can solve depression, then faith may be enough in some cases.

However, many people talk about “faith” and only mean a vague hope that God will somehow pull them through. Many of the same people who claim to have faith keep plunging through life ignoring God’s principles for healthy living. If we spurn the good advice that the Bible contains, we won’t escape the consequences – even if we have faith.

If you want to give your life to Jesus, please pray this out loud now there where you are right now:

Dear God, I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He was born of the Virgin Mary. I believe that He died on the cross, that His blood was shed for my sins and that He arose from the dead. I confess that I have disobeyed your commandments. I ask you to forgive me for these sins. I now ask Jesus to come into my heart. Be my Savior. Be my Lord. Be my soon coming King. I will do my best to obey your teachings as recorded in the Bible. Thank you, in Jesus name. Amen.
